I couldn’t find you on the internet?

It may surprise you to know that today over 80% of all your customers now research purchases online BEFORE they buy.  Shoppers no longer use sources like Yellow Pages or the Newspapers.  They use search engines such as Google and if they don’t find you……. it’s your competitors they find!

When people search for products they seldom search by a business name.  In most cases they probably have no idea of the businesses that sell that particular product.  So they use generic search terms.  Let’s say you sell windows, new and replacement.  People will use terms like this:

Home Windows 2.7 million
Replacement Windows 450,000
New Windows 368,000
Glass Windows 201,000 and so on.

To be effective your website would have to show up in the top 10 when those terms or your applicable industry terms were searched.  95% of all web traffic chooses from the first 10 results they get..

So your challenge is to think of 6 or so major keywords for your industry or product.  Does your website show up in the top 10 for any?  What about the other 800 keywords or so most industries generate?  Which of them are worth focusing on, which get traffic, which indicate buying signals?  Are you puzzled about Twitter, Facebook, Linked in, You Tube and all the talk about social media?
