Domains

Please read this before you contact us.

Company History

DropWizard started back in the early 2000's as a drop catcher of expired domains for clients.  Ultimately we had thousands of clients worldwide ordering up to 50,000 domains every month.  In 2003 we decided to concentrate on building our own portfolio.  We have been in this business a long time and have been involved in the purchase and sale of thousands of domains to some of the largest domain portfolio holders in the world.

With regard to our portfolio we receive hundreds of emails and phone calls every year from people who want to know "how much".

This has become something of a "pet peeve" so I hope this doesn't come off as sounding too harsh.

We don't maintain a price list for all our domains.  We have thousands.  The vast majority of the enquiries we get are, to put it politely, "unqualified". People who are shopping with $50 or $300 as a budget. Sadly, most of these people never had realistic expectations to begin with. Others are just bargain hunting, sending out mass emails hoping someone responds.

The following is a realistic look at market pricing.

Sticker Shock

The average price of a mediocre domain in 2009 was almost $3,000.00.

  1. Moderate quality domains sell for $3,000.00 to $9,999.00.
  2. Good quality domains sell for $10,000 - $99,999.
  3. Top quality domains sell for $100,000 and up to $500,000.
  4. Absolute premium domains sell for $500,000 and up with many exceeding the million dollar mark.

Successful Offers

Successful offers are usually from people or companies that have taken the time to research the market and are aware of what domains sell for.  Many hire brokers on their behalf  and most of the time the brokers will educate them up front on realistic costs rather than waste their time presenting low ball offers they know won't fly.  Amazingly most of these type of offers are accepted to the satisfaction of all parties.

Good Offers

A good offer will contain the following:

  • Name, address & phone number.
  • Company you represent and your position.
  • No "corporate authority" to close the transaction.. don't write!
  • If you are a broker please say so.
  • Serious dollar amount for an opening offer.
  • Future plans for the domain. (we may want a portion of the future activity)
  • Proposed closing date and method of payment.

Leasing - Renting - Financing - Joint Venture

We will consider offers for leasing our domains. We require 3 months prepayment and the lease is calculated at:

FMV x 20% divided by 12 for a monthly payment.  Indexed annually by the CPI.  Term is 5 years with 5 years automatically renewable.

Renting domains is by individual agreement only depending on the useage and term.

We will also finance purchase transactions.  Please indicate in your offer if you require financing.  We expect 10-30% downpayment and the balance monthly over 3-5 years.

We will look at all proposals for joint ventures based on most of our domains.

Please use the form below to contact us with your information and proposed price. Use the notes section to indicate if you are needing a lease, rental, financing or J/V proposal.
